Websites, and more importantly websites for your lash business…it’s a topic of discussion on many facebook lash groups I’m a part of, and it’s a question I see pop up often. I’m not going to turn this post into lecture session on why your lash business will fail if you don’t have a website. Because the truth is you can still do ok without one…you may not explode with growth…but it is possible.

But I’ll be completely transparent here…I’m not a fan of anyone having a business of any kind without a website. It’s 2016, and technology is only going to propel business further up the sophistication ladder, a website is almost like having a business phone. Most businesses wouldn’t even dream of having a business without a phone number. So that’s how I look at it.

A great big ginormous amount ( I don’t know the real percentage…so I’ll just stick with big words 🙂 of people now have smartphones and have access to the internet. And when they get that itch to find something they want or need, the very first thing they all do is turn to Siri…or Google. And if you do not have a website for your lash business, you miss out on each and every one of those inquiries…and trust me when I say…they are PLENTY of inquiries happening every.single.day!

So let’s pretend that you don’t have a website and you’d like to get one…what do you do? You could sign up for business insurance and get a free one they provide for you. That’s a great idea if you prefer, a cookie cutter plain ole’ boxy square website, with less than average search engine optimization(SEO) if any at all. The lash industry is a beautiful wonderful segment of the beauty world…so any website of yours should be beautiful and wonderful too. You’d be hard-pressed to get that with those basic plain free websites.

You could go on the hunt to hire a web designer to do it for you. Another good idea especially if you have $1000+ to spend on a design and a few customizations, and design changes. This option is for you if you have a large monthly budget to allot to your website, and the costs to let someone else take control. Keep in mind, that you may find a cheaper design price, but you may incur fees or costs in order to make design changes, update your SEO, or change or add new pages, shopping cart or training pages.

You may be wondering…’ok…so what do I do then?’ There are plenty of low cost, beautifully appointed, SEO friendly website platforms. Wix, Shopify, SquareSpace, are all great options to get a great website started and get your business on the lash map!

Most of these type of web platforms will allow you to purchase your domain name ie… www.youlashdream.com through them for a fee. My advice is don’t! It’s usually overpriced, and they depend on you not knowing how to do it on your own, so you purchase from them. You can purchase your domain name for super cheap via Dynadot. At less than $11/year for a .com name it’s one of the best investments you can do for your lash business. Once you do that, the process is fairly simply to ‘point’ your domain name to your new web design platform. Each one has their own way of doing it, but it’s fairly simple. Involving grabbing the NAMESERVERS from Dynadot…and inputting them into your web design platform. Most have instructions on how to do this. If you find you’re having trouble, with this comment below and we’ll walk you through it.

Bottom line, if you’re the boss…it’s silly really to not get a website. Especially if you’re looking to grow your business and attract new eyelash extension clients.

Microblading is the talk of the beauty world and if you're reading this right now you may be wondering if permanent or semi permanent makeup is the career choice for you. This not so new but new to us industry is literally changing lives as it takes the beauty industry by storm. For as long as many of us can remember we've either over tweezed, or filled in our eyebrows...Ever. Single. Day  

It's a time consuming ritual that thousands and thousands of beauties are sick of doing. So in comes Microblading a semi-permanent savior of a technique. Delivering a beautifully natural and realistic looking set of eyebrows that provide easier mornings, no worries at the beach or in the shower.  It truly is a life-changing service that once mastered can be equally rewarding for you as the artist and for your clients. 

But getting started is different in every state and regulations are changing and shifting constantly to further create a solid set of rules for those looking to get started. Some require a license, while others do not. Best idea is to start with who regulates the tattoo industry in your state or country.  From there you should be able to find the answers you need to kick your Microblading artist career off. 

But sometimes overlooked is your personal inventory of skills, mindset and passion. Offering Microblading takes intense hand and eye coordination, a knack for artistry of the face, patience and an understanding of how the eyebrows play such an important role on everyone's face. I always like to say that one hair or stroke can make or break a set of brows. Without believing this truth...you may find that this field isn't for you. 

Next are you ready for the business side of things? If you're considering striking it out on your own, you better be ready to wear 10 different hats...and juggle them in the air. You have to be the artist, the janitor, the marketer, the accountant, the legal, the designer, and then some.  Running any business alone is never easy, but running a beauty business poses its own set of challenges. Not only do you have to be an artist you have to be a whip at getting new clients to you. And unfortunately many microblading trainers out there today have no idea how to do this. They may be amazing brow artists and instructors...but have no clue beyond Facebook and business cards to grow your new business. So you are then in a position of having a beautiful new skill you wanna share with the world...but no one to share it with. 

So by now you may be over the moon excited to get started...or having second thoughts. Both of which are totally normal. But if you're having second thoughts, maybe sit down and take inventory on what is creating the doubt. Is it the investment in training, or the business side of it all? 

Or if you're ready to jump in head first...you're next steps are finding out your local regulations, seeking a reputable Microblading trainer or educator, and mapping out your business goals to get started.
